I agree that this is a fadcinating article and, as usual, George gives his readers plenty of food for thought. I just don't happen to agree that being abrasive, unpopular and feared are the best ways to get things done.

Having worked for a departmental manager like that, I can vouch for the demoralising effect that style of management has on the workforce, and how it makes good people choose to leave, but it makes the organisation to people from outside looking for posts in that area of work.

I would recommend reading 'Winning' by Sir clive Woodward to learn about how he built a 'people focused' successful organisation.
